Two recent mega-jackpots put the Iowa Lottery almost a month ahead of where revenue normally sits, but the Iowa Department of Justice is facing a “perilous” budget line after years of flat funding and cuts, Gov. Kim Reynolds heard during a state budget hearing Thursday. The Cedar Rapids Gazette reports the Iowa Lottery received around $20 million to $25 million in a month due to ticket sales, which CEO Terry Rich said should translate into $71 million in proceeds for the state treasury at the end of the current fiscal year. Meanwhile, Iowa Attorney General Tom Miller asked the governor and legislators for a $500,000 boost in fiscal 2020 and a $1 million increase the following fiscal year to cover shortfalls amid a rise in cases for the Department of Justice.
