Two Greater Des Moines-based accountable care organizations have been named to the list of “100 ACOs to Know“ in 2016 by Becker’s Hospital Review. Mercy ACO and Iowa Health Accountable Care, which does business as UnityPoint Health Partners, were recognized as the only Iowa-based ACOs on the list. The organizations were selected based on quality and cost performance, participation in the Center for Medicare Services’ Next Generation and Pioneer models, advanced tracks of the Medicare Shared Savings Program, and number of recently formed commercial contracts. An ACO is a group of doctors, hospitals and other health care providers who come together to give coordinated, quality care to patients, with the goal of reducing health care spending while improving the quality of care patients receive.
