MercyOne Central Iowa announced the appointment of Dr. Hijinio Carreon as interim chief medical officer for MercyOne Des Moines and West Des Moines medical centers. Carreon joined MercyOne in 2007 and has been co-medical director of the Department of Emergency Medicine at MercyOne Des Moines and West Des Moines and chief medical officer of MercyOne Newton Medical Center. He succeeds Dr. Charles Keller, who has stepped down as CMO for personal reasons. As interim CMO, Carreon will oversee clinical operations of the medical staff. He will be dedicated to developing initiatives to improve physician engagement, patient satisfaction, safety and overall clinical quality. He will also oversee five residency programs: family medicine, internal medicine, general surgery, plastic surgery and psychiatry.
