Catholic Health Initiatives on Friday entered an agreement with San Francisco-based Dignity Health to combine into a single Catholic health system comprising 139 hospitals across 28 states with combined revenues of $28.4 billion, Becker’s Hospital Review reported. Mercy Medical Center-Des Moines is part of Catholic Health Initiatives, which is based in Englewood, Colo. The organization will be jointly led by Kevin Lofton, CEO of CHI, and Lloyd Dean, CEO of Dignity Health. The merged organization will be based in Chicago and operate under a new brand name, which officials will select during the second half of 2018. Local health care facilities, however, will continue operating under their current brands, the organizations said. Officials expect to close the transaction during the second half of 2018, pending necessary regulatory approval.
