Meredith acquires health search engine Healia
Meredith Corp. announced today that it will acquire Healia, a consumer health search engine specializing in finding high quality and personalized health information online. Terms were not disclosed, however Meredith said the purchase will not have a material financial effect on the company.
“The acquisition of Healia is an important step in our strategic initiatives to expand our reach in the women’s health market and to provide content-focused services online,” said Jack Griffin, president of the Meredith Publishing Group, in a press release.
This is Meredith’s fourth acquisition in its effort to expand its online services and capabilities in the past year.
Winner of a number of industry awards, Healia provides an innovative search technology that helps health professionals and consumers find the most personally relevant search results. It uses a variety of categories to narrow search results including gender, age and racial/ethnic background as well as causes/risks, symptoms and treatment or side effects. Healia also is a growing online advertising and marketing platform.
Meredith plans to integrate the Healia technology in its existing Web sites as well as expand Healia.com and offer the technology through licensing and distribution agreements with select health organizations, consumer Web sites, employers and more.
