For a second consecutive year, MidAmerican Energy Co.’s business customers have rated the utility highest for overall satisfaction in its segment in the J.D. Power Electric Utility Business Customer Satisfaction Study. The 2015 study, released this week, measures satisfaction among business customers of 101 U.S. electric utilities, each of which serves more than 25,000 business customers. Nationwide, business customer satisfaction with their electric utilities has hit its highest mark since 2009, based primarily on a substantial year-over-year increase in satisfaction with power quality and reliability, the benchmarking company said in a release. Overall, MidAmerican Energy was rated highest among the 13 companies in the Midwest Region – Large Segment, with an overall satisfaction index score of 718. The 2015 score was 21 points higher than its 2014 score, and 13 points ahead of Xcel Enegy – Midwest, the No. 2 ranked utility in the segment. Alliant Energy Corp., which also serves Iowa, was ranked 10th highest among the 14 large Midwest utilities, with a score of 675. Overall satisfaction is examined across six factors, listed in order of importance: power quality and reliability; billing and payment; corporate citizenship; price; communications; and customer service. Satisfaction is calculated on a 1,000-point scale.
