The Des Moines Heritage Trust is hosting a Des Moines Miniature History contest this weekend at the Des Moines Heritage Center. The event will feature several historic Des Moines buildings and a 30-foot model railroad set in the capital city. Eight scale model buildings, including the Des Moines Art Center, Terrace Hill, AEG headquarters, Harlan’s Barbershop, Reed’s Ice Cream in Beaverdale, and the Iowa Women’s Achievement Bridge will be on display and competing for cash prizes. Several of these models will be sold through a silent auction during the event to support the Des Moines Heritage Trust. The event, which is free, will take place at 120 E. Fifth Street in the East Village from 5 to 9 p.m. on Friday and from 1 to 5 p.m. on Saturday. For more information, go to www.desmoinesheritagetrust.org.
