More homes sold in Iowa in 2020 than in previous year
More than 46,200 houses were sold in Iowa in 2020, nearly 10% more than the number sold the previous year, according to the Iowa Association of Realtors. Specifically, 46,252 houses were sold, compared with 42,124 in 2019. The median sale price of a house sold in 2020 was $180,000, 7% higher than 2019’s median price of $168,000. “The pandemic began to impact Iowa mid-March and we definitely experienced a slow down in the market for several weeks,” said Jen Burkamper, the group’s president. “The historically low interest rates continue to help buyers and sellers find homes that match their budget.” The strong year statewide for home sales was helped by markets like the Greater Des Moines area, which experienced a record-setting year in sales.
