Most D.M. hospitals don’t require employee COVID shots — but that could change

Des Moines Register: Most Des Moines hospitals are not yet joining a national trend to require health care employees to be vaccinated against the coronavirus, although the region’s two largest hospital systems are considering it. Among the Des Moines area’s eight hospitals, only the Veterans Affairs Medical Center requires employees to be vaccinated if they care for patients. That decision was announced by officials in Washington, D.C., on Monday. UnityPoint Health-Des Moines and MercyOne-Des Moines, which run six of the area’s hospitals, said this week that they do not currently require employees to be vaccinated. But they’re thinking about it. MercyOne hospitals in Clinton, Dubuque, Mason City and Sioux City are requiring employees to be vaccinated.
