Most Iowa stocks gain ground in June

A majority of Iowa-based stocks recorded gains in June, as the Iowa Index of stock prices ticked upward by 7.85% over May. Just five of the 21 Iowa-based companies in the Iowa Index ended June with a decline in price. 

Looking at all 36 stocks of both Iowa-based companies and those with a significant presence in the state, the top price gainers in June were Casey’s General Stores, Winnebago Industries and Deere & Co., with share prices rising 20.85%, 20.26% and 18.22%, respectively. 

Stocks with the biggest price declines in June included Green Plains Renewable Energy, down 17.39%, followed by NewLink Genetics and Lee Enterprises at -15.91% and -11.11%, respectively. 

June’s gain of 7.85% for the Iowa Index —  an unweighted average price of 21 Iowa-based publicly traded companies — slightly outpaced both the Nasdaq and Dow Jones, which were up 7.4% and 7.2% in June. 


The Iowa-based companies that make up the Iowa Index are in bold in this list of companies with sizable operations in the state.
