170 wordsAll Latest News, TransportationThe Des Moines Area Metropolitan Planning Organization is seeking public input on which local transportation projects people would like to see funded. The MPO is accepting comments on its website through March 8. According to a news release, 19 projects are under consideration, from roads, bridges and transit buses to trails, safe routes to schools and on-street facilities. Nearly $39 million has been requested from the Surface Transportation Block Grant Program, funded by the U.S. Department of Transportation and administered by the MPO. The program will have about $16 million available. Descriptions and interactive maps of the projects can be found on the MPO website. Projects are scored on how well they meet performance measures identified in the region’s long-range transportation plan, Mobilizing Tomorrow. A subcommittee of local officials will consider those scores and public comments in making funding recommendations to the MPO Policy Committee in April. The policy committee will give final approval to funding in May. Grants will be allocated in the federal fiscal year 2027.
