Multicultural reception set for Martin Luther King Jr. Day

RecPlex. The event, part of West Des Moines’ broader daylong celebration, will feature a reception, roundtable discussion and a celebration honoring Martin Luther King Jr., with keynote speaker Rich A. Salas, chief diversity officer at Des Moines University. From 3-5 p.m., attendees can engage in discussions and explore educational exhibits before the presentation of scholarships and community awards. The goal of the event is to encourage “an ongoing conversation of understanding and appreciation for others’ stories,” Marvin DeJear, chief diversity, equity and inclusion officer for the Partnership, said in a prepared statement. The reception is free to attend, but registration is required.
