NAMIWalks virtual event is Saturday
The annual NAMIWalks Iowa event is scheduled for Saturday, but will be shifting to a virtual event because of the coronavirus pandemic. According to a news release, this year’s event, NAMIWalks Your Way, brings people together to raise awareness of mental health issues and funds for NAMI’s recovery-focused mission of support, education and advocacy for people and families affected by mental illness. Instead of walking a 5K together at Terra Lake Park in Johnson, participants can do an activity of their choice and join virtually with other NAMIWalks participants and mental health advocates across the country. “If the past couple of months have shown us anything, it’s that putting importance on mental health is needed for all, and NAMIWalks Iowa helps make sure that happens,” said Peggy Huppert, executive director of NAMI Iowa.To join NAMIWalks Your Way, visit namiwalks.org/iowa. There is no registration fee, but fundraising is encouraged. For more information about NAMIWalks Iowa, please visit the website or call the NAMI Iowa office at 515-254-0417.
