Navigator grants announced for health insurance marketplace

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services announced that Visiting Nurse Services of Iowa in Des Moines will receive a $176,996 grant to continue helping individuals enroll in the health insurance marketplace. This is the third year VNS of Iowa has been selected as a Navigator grantee, and it is one of three organizations in Iowa that will provide navigator services. Genesis Visiting Nurses Association and Planned Parenthood of the Heartland will also receive Navigator grants. Visiting Nurse Services’ program will cover 43 of Iowa’s 99 counties this year, which are home to about 69 percent of the Iowa’s uninsured. Visiting Nurse Services will provide Navigator services through public awareness, education and assistance in enrolling individuals in qualified health plans, as well as coordinate with other health programs such as Medicaid and CHIP.
