The Iowa Board of Medicine has named Kent Nebel as its executive director. Nebel has been the board’s legal director for nearly 20 years and interim director since July 2018 following the departure of Mark Bowden. In a release, the board noted Nebel’s comprehensive understanding of the board’s operations and governance as reasons for selecting him, along with Nebel’s long-standing relationships with important stakeholders in the medical community. The board, which is funded solely by fees collected from its licensees, is an executive branch agency within the Iowa Department of Public Health. “First and foremost, I will strive to maintain the Iowa Board of Medicine as a national leader in the effective licensure and regulation of physicians,” Nebel said. He has a bachelor’s degree in finance from the University of Iowa and a law degree from Drake University.
