The Albaugh Family Senior Community Center, located at 150 N.W. Ash St. in Ankeny, will open to the public at 6:30 a.m. Dec. 21. A grand opening celebration is planned at 3 p.m. Dec. 20 with a short program and ribbon-cutting ceremony planned at 3:15 p.m. The $7.1 million center is a joint project between the city of Ankeny and Polk County. The two-story, 30,300-square-foot center includes a large community center, classrooms, an indoor walking track, pickleball courts, a golf/sports simulator, an exercise area and raised shuffle boards. Polk County will use the center to provide services to senior citizens. The city will provide programming for all residents. The walking track and amenities on the second floor will be available to Ankeny residents whenever the facility is open. Ankeny residents Dennis and Susan Albaugh donated $500,000 to the project, which allowed them to name the facility. More information about the center is available here.
