New at-large city councilperson elected in Des Moines

83 wordsAll Latest News, Government Policy and LawMike Simonson won a special election Tuesday for the at-large Des Moines City Council seat formerly held by Mayor Connie Boesen, according to unofficial results from the Polk County Auditor’s office.
The results show Simonson received 58% of the votes, followed by candidate Justyn Lewis, who received 33% of votes. Unofficial numbers show 7,317 voters, or about 5.7%, turned out to vote, the Des Moines Register reports.
Simonson is president of Simonson & Associates Architects in Des Moines and graduated from Iowa State University.
