New East Village boutique opens tomorrow

There’s a pink convertible sitting in the front of the East Village’s newest boutique. Myra Lynn Hansen, Village Boutique’s owner, said she bought the car at an auction a year ago, before she even knew where she’d put it.

Hansen, an interior designer for almost 20 years, said she just knew she could find something to do with the vehicle the moment she saw it.

The car isn’t the only item that will catch shoppers eyes in the 5,500-square-foot shop at 515 E. Locust St, that opens Saturday. A path made of pink brick leads shoppers to women’s clothing, accessories and home goods. Hansen has also included a shuffleboard, couches and TVs to occupy more resistant shoppers.

“That was my husband’s idea,” she said. “He told me, ‘we need stuff for men to do.’ He gets bored going shopping.”

Hansen’s store showcases smaller furniture pieces made for downtown condominiums and apartments. She said she wanted to offer unique items to young professionals at reasonable prices.

“I like to offer things that have that wow factor,” she said. “Things that are out of the ordinary and that you can’t find elsewhere.”

The Village Boutique is the first of several projects that Hansen and her husband, developer Craig Hansen, have planned for the East Village. She said the two are passionate and excited about further developing the area.

“When you do things like this, you encourage people to shop and buy and build,” she said. “You add growth to the community.”
