MercyOne’s new maternity center at MercyOne West Des Moines Medical Center is now officially open as of today, the health system announced. The new obstetrics unit provides inpatient birth and surgical services and also includes a Level II neonatal intensive care unit. “We’re thrilled to welcome the first babies today in the brand-new maternity center at MercyOne West Des Moines,” MercyOne Central Iowa President Karl Keeler said in a release. “As the metro’s western suburbs continue to grow and more families move to the area, it’s critical MercyOne meets their health care needs close to home. We know that as families begin thinking about where to deliver their babies, having a NICU and on-site specialty care can provide peace of mind.” The 30,869-square-foot maternity center is located on the top floor of MercyOne West Des Moines, on the previously unfinished seventh floor of the hospital.
