Mars Cafe will reopen Sept. 15 under new ownership.

Founder Larry James closed the Drake neighborhood coffeehouse earlier this summer. New owners Mark Movic, Angela Johnson, Amedeo Rossi and Justin Schoen and some former employees will operate the business.

“We are all longtime customers of Mars and saw a great business opportunity,” said Schoen.  “Larry created a brand that resonates with the Des Moines community. We plan to continue many of his traditions while making small improvements.”

The new owners plan to update the cafe’s menu, add a new coffee roaster and expand entertainment programming.  For updates, follow @marscafe on Twitter.
