HomeGrown, a Wichita, Kan.-based breakfast and lunch eatery, will open a location in December in the Crescent Building, Krause+ announced.

The Crescent Building is at 555 17th St. in Des Moines. Big Grove Brewery and Taproom is also located in the building, which is owned by the Krause Group, parent company of Krause+.

HomeGrown was started five years ago in Wichita by Jon and Lauren Rolph. The Des Moines location will be the group’s sixth restaurant. The group has three locations in Wichita and two in Kansas City.

HomeGrown serves made-from-scratch meals with locally sourced ingredients including cage-free eggs, homemade toaster pastries and mimosas.

HomeGrown was built to center around the idea of cultivating kindness, Jon Rolph said in a prepared statement. “We believe that if we help each other start the day right, we will awaken a contagious chain of positive acts that cultivate kindness throughout Des Moines,” he said.

Krause Group acquired the Crescent Building in 2014. The building, which is the former home of the Crescent Chevrolet auto dealership, sat unused for more than a decade. Last summer, Big Grove announced it would open a Des Moines location in the eastern portion of the building.

Krause+, Krause Group’s development arm, has overseen the redevelopment of the building.

“We’re excited for another great addition to the Crescent Building, which has reinvigorated the neighborhood and complements the energy of surrounding businesses,” Nate Easter, Krause+’s director of commercial development, said in a prepared statement. “HomeGrown will enhance the Krause+ goal of creating vibrant communities where people can live, work, and play.”
