The American Institute of CPAs has presented Andy Nielsen of Ankeny with its 2019 Outstanding CPA in Government Career Contribution Award. Nielsen, who retired in December 2018 as Iowa’s deputy auditor, distinguished himself through his significant contributions at the federal, state and local government levels, including 38 years at the state auditor’s office. He spent countless hours training and mentoring governmental CPAs, auditors, accountants, city and county clerks, and elected officials. Nielsen received the Iowa Society of CPAs Public Service Award in May for his long-term involvement in the society and the Iowa State Auditor’s Office and his strong degree of responsibility to all Iowa CPAs.
