Nike shares tumble after talk of price hike
Shares of Nike Inc. took a tumble today after the company said during a conference call last night that it will raise its prices, CNNMoney.com reported. Shares were down to $77.13, a sharp decline from Thursday’s close of $85.41. Nike, which is concerned that rising input costs related to oil, cotton and labor could cut into profit margins, announced third-quarter earnings of $1.08 per share on revenues of $5.1 billion, slightly lower figures than analysts had expected. “Beginning in spring 2012, we’ll take more significant price increases across a broader range of styles,” said Don Blair, Nike’s chief financial officer.
