Iowa Environmental Focus: Near-record flooding in northeastern Iowa caused $5 million in damage to public infrastructure, according to an estimate by the Iowa Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management. The estimate does not include damage to private property, which could also be in the millions for homeowners. More than 7 inches of rain blasted Decorah, Spillville and other cities in Winneshiek county and the surrounding area on Aug. 23.
