NOTABLE TRANSACTIONS: Aldi grocery buys land in Altoona

Aldi Inc. paid Altoona Lion Development Group LLC, located in North Liberty, Iowa, $1.87 million for 2.2 acres of vacant ground at 611 34th Ave. S.W. in Altoona, Polk County real estate transaction records show. The vacant land, valued at $1.2 million, is south of Adventureland Park and east of Walmart. Aldi, headquartered in Batavia, Ill., is a discount grocery store with nearly 2,000 stores in 36 states. Aldi’s goal, according to its website, is to become the third-largest grocery store in the U.S. by count by 2020. The transaction was recorded on July 2.

Greater Iowa Credit Union of Ames paid West Des Moines-based Northwest Bank $1.4 million for property at 1700 S.E. Delaware Ave. in Ankeny, records show. The property, valued at $1.25 million in 2020, includes 1.1 acres and 3,320-square-foot brick bank building. The building was constructed in 2003. The transaction was recorded on July 2.

Hope K Farms LLC, based in West Des Moines, paid Thomas and Kay Deering of Ohio $1.1 million for property at 133303 N.W. Granger Drive in Granger, records show. The property includes nearly 113 acres, most of it farm ground. A two-story, single-family house built in 1923 sits on 4 acres. The property in 2019 was valued at $204,850. The transaction was recorded on July 1.
