In September, Branstad resigned as U.S. ambassador to China. He recently returned to Iowa after spending three years overseas. In recent weeks, he has spent time campaigning for the reelection of President Donald Trump and U.S. Sen. Joni Ernst, according to a recent Des Moines Register article.
Branstad served as Iowa’s governor from 1983 to 1999 and again from 2011 until May 24, 2017, when he resigned to become the U.S. ambassador to China. Branstad was also president of Des Moines University between August 2003 and October 2009.
