NOTEBOOK: Flashback – The humble beginnings of AHeinz57

Amy Heinz was a study in perpetual motion when I interviewed her seven years ago about a startup nonprofit — AHeinz57 Pet Rescue & Transport — that was operating out of her home south of Adel. She was a mom with a full-time job at Wells Fargo, and she had been working double-time finding homes for abandoned dogs, and the occasional cat. She had a crew of about 30 volunteers who provided temporary homes and about 20 people who would deliver the forlorn animals to their new homes. There were a handful of pet kennels in her garage and three or four dogs scampering through the house. The dogs appeared to have decided that they had already found their new home. It’s fun to read the update that reporter Joe Gardyasz has provided about the remarkable growth of her nonprofit. Here’s a link to my story back in 2009 when I first ventured to Amy’s home.
