For Justin Mandelbaum, the mission at his artist studios on Keosauqua Way hasn't changed, just the name.

Mandelbaum, in Washington, D.C., as part of the Greater Des Moines Partnership's annual pilgrimage to the nation's capital, said the building at 900 Keosauqua Way where he plans to provide affordable studio space for artists is now called Mainframe Studios, in recognition of the original owner's intent to house mainframe computers in the four-story, 160,000-square-foot structure.

Mandelbaum originally called the building DesMoinesArts, but the name caused some confusion among folks who wondered whether the projects was affiliated with the Des Moines Arts Center, Des Moines Performing Arts or the Des Moines Art Festival, he told members of the Partnership delegation.

"Our name was confusing from the beginning," he said. "Not all of us have a good name." Mandelbaum bought the building in 2014 from CenturyLink.
