NOTEBOOK: It’s Earth Day. Here’s how one building is making less trash

In honor of Earth Day, here’s a look at the “greenest academic building in the country,” courtesy of the New York Times. The building that houses the University of California-Berkeley’s Haas School of Business was recently certified as TRUE Platinum Zero Waste, which means the building pretty much doesn’t send any waste to the landfill. “The building, which opened in 2017, has places to dispose of compostable material and to recycle, but as the economy behind recycling starts to collapse, environmental advocates are trying to encourage people to produce less waste to begin with.” The biggest barrier: changing human habit.
