With STEM fields getting a lot of attention in education, the results of the 2017 Iowa Youth Straw Poll caught our eyes. It turns out just 26 percent of students who participated consider math their favorite subject, with science getting 19 percent. In late October, thousands of elementary, middle school and high school students across Iowa participated in the poll run by Secretary of State Paul Pate’s office. It’s an exercise to inspire civic engagement among Iowa’s youth and give them a feel for how the electoral process works, said a release from Pate’s office.
Here are the top three results from other ballot questions:

Yes – 76%
No – 13%
What is your favorite state university in Iowa?
Iowa – 49%
Iowa State – 34%
Northern Iowa – 9%
Who is your favorite superhero?
Batman – 15%
Wonder Woman – 12%
Spiderman – 12%
