NOTEBOOK – One Good Read: Are we headed for meat shortages? Some say no

First there were shortages of toilet paper and cleaning supplies. Then some types of meat and eggs. Now stores that sell groceries are again limiting meat purchases. Elliott Dennis is, an assistant professor of livestock marketing and risk management at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln told the Omaha-World Herald. Early in the pandemic-related shut-down, shoppers stockpiled toilet paper. “That had nothing to do with the supply of toilet paper but people’s reaction to the idea that there may not be any in the future,” Dennis said. The same is true with meat, he told reporter Erin Duffy. Dennis and others say there are plenty of meats in cold storage, maybe just not the cuts consumers typically purchase. “People don’t need to buy three months’ worth of meat right now,” Dennis said.
