Australian researchers are doing more than just looking for a vaccine for the virus that causes COVID-19. They are studying activities such as breastfeeding to see what effect it may have on the spread of the virus, studying filter systems to remove the virus through air-conditioning systems, and monitoring sewage to detect the prevalence of the virus. They are even modifying technology used to detect explosives to see if it can be used to identify the presence of COVID-19. “When I’ve looked into the medical research Australia is doing, it is clear that proportionally we are doing more for the size of our population than even the U.S. or most parts of Europe,” Dr. Peter Collignon, an infectious disease doctor at the Canberra Hospital and a professor at the Australian National University, said in an article published in the Guardian.
