Pew Research recently came out with a report that illustrates other gender disparities in the U.S. workforce during the pandemic. The study found that among less-educated adults – read: no education beyond high school – the labor force decline has been greater for women than men. What’s the reasoning behind this? Women are overrepresented in certain occupations that were hit hard by the pandemic, including jobs in health care and hospitality. It is less clear whether women’s parental roles and limited child care and schooling options have played a large role in forcing them to exit the labor market. The number of mothers and fathers in the labor force has declined in similar fashion over the past two years.
