NOTEBOOK – ONE GOOD READ: Study: Corporate DEI efforts fail to address opportunity gaps among low-wage workers

We’ve all heard about efforts by companies to hire and advance people of color, but this story from the Wall Street Journal suggests those efforts are missing the mark and rarely benefit those who need it most: the millions of low-wage workers in stores, warehouses, plants and other front-line workplaces. According to the article, DEI efforts have led to small diversity gains in offices and C-suites, but have done less to address the bigger opportunity gaps people face in hourly jobs, research by global consulting management firm McKinsey & Co. shows. This article looks at how despite resources dedicated by companies to become more diverse, including recruiting more at historically Black colleges and appointing more people from minority backgrounds to executive positions, those efforts are falling short when it comes to lower-wage, hourly workers.
