Fast Company has a fascinating look at how we acknowledge those who influenced our careers, guided us and helped make us who we are. I have told people for years that former Des Moines Register reporter and editor Randy Evans has always ranked at the top of my list of mentors. Why he took time to show interest in my very green career when I first walked into the Register building, I don’t know. But he helped launch me on a journey that has involved a lot of typing, and scribbling in narrow notebooks, if nothing else. This story looks at  how important it is for us to acknowledge who has guided us — as NBA superstar Kevin Durant did for 30 minutes at an MVP ceremony — and notes there is value even in us pausing to ask ourselves that question.
