I can’t win,” I thought to myself recently, looking up to the kitchen cabinets where my roommate had stored the Pyrex bowls above the refrigerator. I am short, with a preference for flat shoes, and I’ve learned when to work around my fate and when to accept it. Yet, last night a 2015 piece from the Atlantic titled “The Financial Perks of Being Tall’”surfaced on my Facebook feed with a fresh sting: Studies over time have correlated four or five inches over the average height with an increase in salary between 9 and 15 percent. Another analysis suggests almost $800 a year in increased earnings for an extra inch. Data collected by the German government also suggested that additional height seems to make one more likely to be an entrepreneur. Correlation isn’t causation, of course. At least I’m short enough to see the grocery store deals on the bottom shelf.
