This story from the Atlantic looks at the labor shortage that we so frequently hear about, and asks the question: Where did all the workers go? There are “We’re Hiring” signs seemingly everywhere, and the labor shortage extends beyond just the restaurant and retail sectors and into corporations across the country. Supply demand is up, consumers are buying more, wages are rising, and the country’s GDP is greater than it was before the pandemic in February 2020. While everything seems to be humming, the remaining mystery is the labor shortage, with the economy being down about seven million workers. According to the Atlantic story, that’s about the same as the entire workforce of Pennsylvania sitting on the sidelines.
