185 wordsArts and Culture, Business Record Insider, The Insider NotebookAfter the U.S. women won their fourth World Cup victory, fans in France quickly went from cheering the victory to chanting, “Equal pay!” in a deafening roar, reports Slate. It was an upfront reminder that soccer players who have won the international tournament four times still do not earn as much as their male counterparts, who have yet to win a single World Cup. U.S. players sued the United States Soccer Federation in March, claiming ‘purposeful gender discrimination’ as the women’s team earns far more money for U.S. Soccer than the men’s team.
“Everyone is kind of asking what’s next and what we want to come of all of this,” said teammate Megan Rapinoe, before she called out both FIFA President Gianni Infantino and U.S. Soccer president Carlos Cordeiro. “It’s to stop having the conversation about equal pay and are we worth it and should we and the investment piece. What are we going to do about it? Gianni, what are we going to do about it? Carlos, what are we going to do about it?”
