There’s a mention of the Lauridsen Skate Park, and the Central Iowa Water Trails projects, and the announcement that the NCAA will return to Des Moines in 2023. But there’s the acknowledgement of the challenges the convention and tourism industry has faced in 2020 with cancellations and postponements of events and the lost revenue that followed. Edwards tips his hat to his staff for the work they’ve done to bring those events back to the city once the pandemic passes, and he jokes about Zoom happy hours and toilet paper shortages that were experienced early in the pandemic.
