Polk County took to the online auction house GovDeals.com to sell an unusual item that measures 112 feet by 60 feet — a basketball floor once used at Veterans Memorial Auditorium.

And after 8,500-plus visited the item on the GovDeals.com website, the floor sold for $18,337.50.

The 20-year-old floor has staged the Harlem Globetrotters, high school sports teams and dance and drill competitions, the listing notes. As you can imagine, all that basketball trickery and backflipping has left minor wear and tear. The wood was refinished and painted in 2006, when the Iowa Events Center logo was added.

The $500 starting bid quickly turned into $3,000 before soaring to $12,000 and on to the final price. There were 69 bids.

The floor was sold as is, stored on 16 dollies. The county threw in two hoops.
