Small Business Saturday, a creation of American Express, on Nov. 25 featured Tim McGrath’s Des Moines Small Biz Support Squad surprising small-business owners with the likes of balloons, food, gifts and massages. The event, started in 2010, recognizes the economic power of  small businesses. More than 112 million American shoppers helped local businesses generate more than $15.4 billion on Small Business Saturday in 2016.
