As you know, the average commute around here is less than 20 minutes, which explains why Des Moines is in the lowest of the three cost categories in the study.
Our friends in Detroit are among the biggest spenders on commuting at $144,300 to $182,886. Chicago, where people make liberal use of the train, is in the middle at $105,700 to $144,300.
