Jennifer Zwagerman, who takes over as director of Drake University’s Agricultural Law Center July 1, didn’t plan to stay in Iowa. “I tell you, when I first moved to Iowa, it was, ‘Three years and I’m out of here,’ because I was coming from Michigan State and this big college town, and Des Moines, 15 years ago, wasn’t what it is now,” Zwagerman said. “And over three years, Des Moines kind of grew on me. I was here from 2001 through 2004, then gone three years, and then came back. Des Moines has changed in good ways in terms of being more vibrant. It still has pockets, where you have East Village or Court Avenue. But it seemed very disjointed before and you might have one or two things to do, then you had to go to the other side of town. Now there’s more districts. As a whole in Des Moines, there’s never a reason to feel you can’t find something to do.”
