This year’s Jazz, Jewels and Jeans fundraiser for the Oakridge Neighborhood is going virtual because of the coronavirus pandemic, organizers said. The fundraiser, which usually features a jazz band, food and live and silent auctions, is scheduled for 7-8:30 p.m. on Sept. 11. Because of the virtual format, it is being changed and will feature a brief introduction about services provided by Oakridge followed by music by the Max Wellman Quartet, organizers said. Oakridge is also working with a local restaurant where people can order meals to enjoy while listening to the live music. Free-will donations will be accepted; otherwise the event will be free for anyone who wants to tune in. It will be broadcast at YouTube @OakridgeNeighborhood and at Facebook @OakridgeNeighborhood Services. With the move to a virtual format, Oakridge has received 15 corporate sponsors so far, organizers said. Oakridge provides affordable housing, and services such as child care, preschool, after- and out-of-school services, and workforce readiness classes.
