Oakridge Neighborhood is hosting an event Friday to inspire and pique students’ curiosity in science, technology, engineering, art, agriculture and math. The annual STEAM on the Ridge event is for K-8 students enrolled in Oakridge’s youth programming. It will feature hands-on activities designed to inspire students’ curiosity and to get them to think about STEAM education and careers. According to a news release, this is the seventh year for the outdoor festival, which was launched by recently retired Callanan Middle School educator and Oakridge Youth Success Navigator Gerald Joseph. The festival has a carnival-like atmosphere so students have fun while learning. There are about 25 stations with interactive learning activities and demonstrations to help students explore and learn about STEAM and apply concepts to real-world and classroom experiences. The event is scheduled from noon to 3:30 p.m. at the Oakridge Neighborhood campus, 1401 Center St. Due to COVID-19 protocols, participants must be invited to attend.
