October construction spending reached 8-year high

Construction spending in October reached the highest level in nearly eight years, with growth in all major categories, the Associated General Contractors of America said today in a release. Construction spending totaled $1.1 trillion at a seasonally adjusted annual rate, 1 percent higher than the September number and 13 percent higher than in October 2014. The figure was the highest since December 2007. Private residential spending increased 1 percent for the month and 16.6 percent over 12 months, with the strongest growth in apartment buildings. Private nonresidential construction spending gained 0.6 percent for the month and 15.3 percent over the year. Public construction spending rose 1.4 percent from a month before and 6.1 percent over the year.
