Office of Drug Control Policy makes $3M in federal grants available to first responders
The Governor’s Office of Drug Control Policy will begin accepting applications for the state’s portion of the federal Coronavirus Emergency Supplemental Funding program on Oct. 8. The deadline for applying is Nov. 9. An estimated $3 million in grants will be available in addition to approximately $2 million in grants that were awarded in the spring through a similar competitive grant process. The CESF program — appropriated by Congress as part of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act, will provide funding through the federal Byrne Justice Assistance Grant program. Allowable projects and purchases include, but are not limited to, overtime, equipment (including personal protective equipment), hiring, supplies such as gloves, masks and sanitizer; as well as training, travel expenses and addressing the medical needs of inmates in state, local, and tribal prisons, jails and detention centers. ODCP will consider applications that address eligible criminal justice priorities set forth in the application instructions found on the ODCP website. For those interested in applying, an application workshop will be held Oct. 8. ODCP intends to announce the recipients of grant awards by Dec. 15.
