Old Bags is Back raises more than $618K for Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Iowa

Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Iowa raised more than $618,000 during its Old Bags is Back luncheon earlier this month, a record for the event that helps ensure the children in Des Moines have access to food and other basic needs. According to a news release, the event, held Sept. 9, was led by Des Moines philanthropist Suzie Glazer Burt in honor of her sister, Ellie Glazer Ziegler and their family’s legacy of supporting the Boys & Girls Club of Central Iowa for three generations. Glazer Burt created the Ellie Challenge, where all funds raised by Old Bags is Back are matched by the Michael and Ellie Glazer Ziegler Foundation. The event also funds the club’s Feeding the Future Program, which provides nutritious snacks and meals during club time, food bags to take home and access to club pantries. “Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Iowa has always had an enormous place in my and my family’s hearts,” Glazer Burt said in the release. “I was pleased to bring this event back to Boys & Girls Clubs where it all started. It was even more special this year because we honored my dear sister and her legacy of giving.”
