The Polk County Board of Supervisors voted Tuesday morning to select Ronald Olson as Polk County administrator.

Olson, the deputy city manager in Arlington, Texas, replaces Michael Freilinger, who resigned in April to become the county administrator in Osceola County, Fla.

“The Board is pleased to have selected Ron Olson to lead us through the many important issues facing Polk County government,” board chairman Tom Hockensmith said in a release. “Ron possesses the skills needed to assist us during these challenging times. He will be instrumental in moving Polk County forward to the next level.”

Olson graduated from Brigham Young University with an undergraduate degree in business management and political science, and a master’s degree in public administration. He has served as the city manager in Middletown, Ohio; Belding, Mich.; and West Jordan, Utah.

“I am honored to have been selected by the board of supervisors and am excited to be part of Polk County. I look forward to working with the board in addressing the challenges and taking advantage of the opportunities facing the county,” Olson said in a release.

The board has directed the search firm of Colin Baenziger & Associates and the Polk County attorney to negotiate an employment agreement with Olson subject to board approval.
