The city of Des Moines will continue its pilot project to turn downtown into a walking-friendly zone when it converts 12th Street to two-way traffic from one way northbound between Grand Avenue and Mulberry Street. The change is the second phase of a pilot project that included the removal of rush-hour parking restrictions on Locust, Mulberry and Seventh streets in late August. The changes are occurring in advance of a study tol determine ways to slow traffic, ease parking and enhance the safety of pedestrians and bicyclists.
